Help Brittany Oliver Beat This!

Brittany Oliver, 24, has been living a great life.  She graduated college and has been working full time in a job she loves as a Radiologic Technologist.  She met her fiance, Mitch, through school, and has been very excited to plan their wedding and future life together.

I met Brittany while working at the hospital.  She is the hardest worker, always pleasant, and is extremely proficient in her job.  She is a great coworker and a friend to all. She gives great care to all her patients, her nephew, and her furry little animals.  She can't wait to get married, buy a house, and start a family.  Up until recently, her health was great, and she frequented the gym every day.  Lately, she has been experiencing severe hypoglycemic episodes, as well as other symptoms. After a few doctor's visits, and multiple tests, she was hit with devastating news.

Brittany was diagnosed with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1).  MEN1 is a rare heritable disorder characterized by a predisposition to tumors of the parathyroid glands, anterior pituitary, and pancreatic islet cells.

Brittany presents with a functional neoplasm of the pancreas, called an insulinoma.  Surgical removal of the insulinoma is required.  She is scheduled for a  Pancreaticduodenectomy, often referred to as the Whipple procedure, at Allegheny General Hospital (Pittsburgh, PA), on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.  The surgery involves removal of the head of the pancreas, the duodenum, and a portion of the stomach, as well as the gallbladder and a portion of the bile duct. The remaining stomach, bile duct and pancreas are then reconnected to the digestive tract.  Part of her spleen may be removed as well.

This difficult and complex operation takes approximately 5-7 hours.  After the surgery, Brittany will be in the ICU for a few days followed by an 8-10 day hospital stay to watch for complications.  She will be off from work for a minimum of 6-8 weeks.

It will take a long time for Brittany to recover and get back to a normal life.  She is not the type who likes to lay around and sit still!  We are confident that Brittany will heal well and quickly, but the financial stress is taking a toll.

Please help us support Brittany.  All funds will go towards her medical expenses and help offset the financial burden of time away from work.  Any support is greatly appreciated.  Let's all help her get back to a great life! Thank you all so very much!!
