Hi, my name is Brittany Perez, and I’m 28 years old. I live in Clovis, CA with my fiancé and our sweet dog, Loki. A year ago, I got engaged and started planning the life I’ve always dreamed of, finishing school, starting my career, and building a future with the person I love.
I’m currently a student at Fresno State University, working toward becoming a speech-language pathologist. I’ve always wanted a career where I help others find their voice. I never imagined I would lose control of my own life before it even started.
A few months ago, my world changed overnight.
I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma.
Nothing prepares you for that kind of news. My diagnosis came with fear, uncertainty, and a determination I didn’t know I had. I believe there is a window of opportunity for me to pursue treatment with curative intent, something that could potentially give me a lifetime free of breast cancer.
To give myself the best chance at a breast cancer free life, I am seeking a second opinion at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas , one of the top cancer centers in the world for breast cancer.
But traveling out of state for specialized care is expensive.
As a full-time student with my fiancé working hard to support us, the added cost of flights, hotels, transportation, and food is more than we can carry alone.
I’m creating this GoFundMe because I need help to get to MD Anderson for evaluation and treatment options that may not be available locally.
These funds will go directly toward:
Airfare for medical travel
Lodging near MD Anderson
Meals and transportation in Houston
Appointment-related travel costs
Any additional medical travel needs that arise
Every dollar helps me get closer to the care that could save my life.
I want the chance to grow old.
I want to marry the love of my life.
I want to finish school and help children one day find their voices.
I want to stay here with my fiancé, with my family, with Loki curled up by my side.
Thank you for reading my story and for supporting me during the hardest chapter of my life.
Your kindness means more than you know.
If you can donate, share, or send a prayer or good thought, I am truly grateful.
With love,
Brittany
update:
after a pet scan, and visit to MD Anderson where a CT guided bone biopsy was done the single suspicious site on my lumbar spine was confirmed to be malignant.
I am now considered to have de novo stage IV IDC HR+ Breast cancer. since there is only one spot of spread I am taking my chances with oligometastatic treatment with curative intent, monthly injections, 2 daily pills, and SBRT to my spine. With surgery in the future dependent on response.
any remaining donations will go towards my continued medical bills, thank you all so much I greatly appreciate you!
