Hello Everyone!
My name is Brittany A. Jones, and I am a Graduating Senior Theatre Arts Administration Major, Graphic Design minor from Mobile, AL! I have always had a passion for arts and culture; one of the most satisfying things is gathering people together and creating platforms for others to showcase their impactful talents. With that in mind, I have always wanted to curate and produce a festival.
As a senior Arts Administration major, we are tasked with creating a senior project that showcases our knowledge and expertise of what we have learned throughout our experience, so I began to look out into the world and imagine how I could use my skills and talents to create something that not only impacts people but also pushes innovation.
This led me to the realization - honestly, live events are dead- or at least in a safe manner for the foreseeable future. Not only does this impact businesses as seen through the #SaveOurStages campaign, but most importantly the artists who create and add value to our culture for a living. Independent artists are entrepreneurs in their own right, and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, their resources have been minimized significantly.
Pinned! is a digital music festival dedicated to celebrating new, upcoming r&b songwriters and performers. Inspired by the saying “drop a pin”, the festival will include performers from different coasts of the United States. Tapping into the regional sounds, aesthetics, and other cultural cues, the festival will celebrate in the spirit of unity in diversity for contemporary and alternative r&b.
The funds raised for this project will go towards the production budget including digital marketing, set design, artist compensation, band/musicians, and any other insurance and emergency.
Following the festival, I hope to begin the works of creating my own arts and culture platform that will eventually one day become an entire art and culture center. Currently, I plan on launching it after graduation and having it exist digitally, and produce more events like Pinned! (or Pinned! again depending on its success!).
I hope to raise these funds by February 8th, so that we can conceptualize and order materials for the sets, as well as pay deposits, to secure the artists and musicians.
By donating, you are not only sowing seeds into the staff but also supporting the local artist by giving them a platform to perform and showcase their gifts in this weird time. We are not sure what live events such as concerts will look like, but I hope that through this project we can tap into a new form of innovation that benefits us all!
