Help Brittany Fight Migraine
Donation protected
I'm Brittany, an artist, educator, and writer, working mainly in theater and photography. I suffer from chronic hemiplegic migraine, a neurological disorder that causes stroke-like episodes that happen 5 to 6 days a week. They cause pain, weakness, memory loss, vertigo, trouble with walking and balance, and many other symptoms. Most recently, I have started losing strength and coordination along my right side. These episodes limit my ability to work, socialize, and some days, leave my bed. As a Black femme, it adds another painful layer to my daily struggles.
I'm asking for help because after three years and five neurologists, I still do not have a successful treatment plan. I have been pushed out of a job because of my disability, and have had to delay going to grad school and moving out of my family home. I am no longer able to hold a full-time job and I often have to use savings and credit cards to make ends meet. The COVID-19 pandemic has limited my ability to work and have income even further.
My doctors and I feel that adding a service dog to detect migraines early and assist me during episodes would be a great addition to my treatment plan. Having a service dog would be like an early warning system for my episodes, letting me act sooner and treat them better. Having a service dog would also give me options for drug-free treatments and help me get around safely when my mobility is affected. Overall, I hope the extra support of a service dog will help keep me going until I find a successful treatment.

I have connected with a wonderful breeder/puppy raiser with years of experience. He's already raised a number of successful service dogs and works hard to provide his pups with the training and experiences they need to be successful. Once I bring my pup, Sirius, home, a certified service dog trainer from Compass Key Dogs is ready to help me with training.

My campaign goal is $9000. The money will be used in the following ways:
$2000 will go to Sirius' puppy raiser
$300 will go to travel expenses to bring Sirius home
$6700 will go to Sirius' service dog training program (that's about $24 a day)

Thank you for reading my story. I appreciate any help or contribution, no matter how big or small! If you can, please share my campaign link on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and with people you know. I will keep you posted on my progress going forward and if you have Instagram, you can follow my [email redacted]ius.Against.Migraine. With your support, I can bring home Sirius the Service Dog in spring 2021!
