Help Brittany Dorsett Johnson Fight Cancer

Donation protected
So 20 years ago or so I have incredibly vivid memories of Brittany Dorsett being the life of every party/event in our little town of Hobe Sound, FL. Her dad David, was a single father, and I think she insisted on being out and about seven nights a week. She was very little then but had a personality bigger than the state of Texas. She had enough energy for everyone in the room or on the basketball / volleyball courts and plenty left over. As she grew older she stayed so very sweet and kind to everyone she met and never had a bad word to say about anybody. I also remember her becoming very athletic and sure enough she went on to play many sports. I think she may have even played some professionally, I’m not sure. All I know is, it broke my heart recently to hear of her battle with cancer at just 34 years old or thereabouts. Now married with a young son and still loves sports but of course not able to play at all. I just know many of you would also want to hear and want to jump in and help in some way. Here is Brittany's story in her own words:

It was 6:30 on a Tuesday morning, I had just started my basketball workout but something felt off. I couldn’t catch my breath and my neck and face were looking swollen. I called my mom and told her something was wrong and that I needed to go to the ER. Within an hour I was headed to the hospital. My struggle to breathe only increased as the hours slipped by, hours had turned to weeks with tests, blood work, biopsy and multiple hospital visits; after prayer and a lot of advocating for myself we finally got our diagnosis. It was large B cell lymphoma stage 1 E. My life had just drastically changed.

Alex was traveling all over Europe preparing for the Olympics for Team Canada and our lives had literally changed overnight. My dad took a flight up to Canada and my mom and Ava joined a few days later.
The mass in my chest was located directly on the main vein and I struggled to breathe. Daily chores were so difficult due to the location of the mass and I couldn’t do regular things like cook, clean, play with my son and work. It was like my life stood still while life kept going. During this entire situation, my job had been tremendously supportive and they have allowed me to work when I can. I have no idea where we would have been without my amazing co-workers and boss.

After my husband spent May and June playing in the Olympic trials for Team Canada, we decided he needed to be home full time to help take care of myself and Beanie. Through six rounds of chemo, blood clots, fissure, multiple hospital stays and frighteningly low blood pressure, by Gods Grace, I am still here. Currently, I am in the hospital and have been for 13 days due to fevers and what they thought was a lung infection. We still don’t have all the answers, but we have a lot of faith. This last round of chemo chewed me up and spit me out. A month of continuous fevers have definitely hit hard so now it’s just a lot of rest. I am incredibly grateful for all the encouragement and prayers from friends and family. It gives me the strength to push through. This has been a daily battle filled with uncertainty and fear but God has given us “God Winks” daily so we still feel his presence in our daily lives. We are believing for a miracle for my body so we can get back to some normalcy. I stand firm in faith and constant in praise.
