My name is Brittany, and I am thrilled to share that I have been accepted into the Mariano Moreno Culinary Institute (MMCI) in Miami! This is a dream come true for me, as I have always wanted to travel, venture out on my own, and share my culture with the world. Living in DC, I’ve often imagined what it would be like to take this leap, and now I finally have the opportunity to make it a reality. The excitement is overwhelming, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous, too. This is a big step, but one I am ready to take with the support of my community.
Attending MMCI means so much more than just going to school—it’s the first step toward building a future where I can open my own lounge or restaurant in the next 3-5 years. However, making this move comes with many expenses. I am raising funds to help cover tuition, moving costs, travel, food, shelter, a new uniform, and furniture as I settle into my new life in Miami. Your support will help me get my foot in the door of stability so I can focus on my studies and work hard to achieve my goals.
Cooking has been my inspiration my entire life. I started at age 5 helping my mom snip green beans and clean collards in the sink. I come from a mixed background of many walks of life, and having lost so many matriarchs in the family, they live through every dash of salt and every spread of butter I place on a dish. I can’t wait to share what my ancestors have given me with the world. All this flavor shouldn’t be bottled up in one. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to my dream. Thank you for believing in me and helping me take this important step toward a brighter future.
