On August 1, Brittany and her three children—ages 15, 9, and 6—lost their home and nearly everything they owned in the Old Trail Fire.
Today, they are living in a hotel in Spokane Valley while Brittany works to come up with a plan for stability.
For this family, losing their home has been an unwelcome turn after an already hard past year. Brittany became a newly single mom after 10 years of marriage. When the family home was sold following her divorce, Brittany used her portion of the proceeds responsibly, paying for an entire year of rent upfront for a place that now doesn’t exist.
Since, Brittany has worked to turn that rental into their home and give her kids a secure place to land while their family adjusted to an entirely new life.
Then, on August 1, they lost it all.
Upon her son’s request, Brittany recently took her son back to see where their home once stood. He began crying, devastated at the loss, and wishing only to go back to what they called home.
That is what this family is grieving. Not simply furniture or belongings, but the modest house they were already working hard to make a home together.
Their normal lives have been turned upside down. Staying in a hotel in Spokane Valley has placed them far from their usual Mead School District, while Brittany tries to determine what comes next. Activities they were looking forward to—including dance and baseball—have been disrupted as they all process everything that has happened.
Brittany is now facing the enormous task of creating stability for her children for the second time in less than a year.
Brittany Is Also Looking for Work
Brittany has historically been a stay-at-home mom, and before the fire was in the process of finding employment. That search continues, and your help is welcome.
She is specifically hoping to find a legitimate work-from-home opportunity with enough flexibility to work around her children’s schooling and activities. After everything her family has experienced, working from home would help her manage the children’s schedules, be there for them emotionally, and address the generalized anxiety disorder she is currently navigating.
If you know of a legitimate remote employment opportunity that could be a good fit, please reach out. A job lead could make an enormous long-term difference for this family.
How You Can Help
Donations will help Brittany replace the things—the clothing, furniture, household necessities, and everyday essentials her family will need when they are finally able to move out of the hotel and into a new home.
The family has an Amazon wish list for anyone who would prefer to purchase something they specifically need.
And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser matters.
Brittany isn’t simply trying to replace what burned. She is trying to give three children who have already experienced tremendous change a sense of home and stability again.
**You can help by donating, purchasing an item from their wish list, sharing this fundraiser, or sending Brittany a legitimate work-from-home job lead. Or sharing community resources that may benefit her situation. **
Every one of those things moves this family one step closer to home.
Thank you for helping Brittany and her children begin again. ♥️
