Just thought I would post a quick update. Jason had his disability hearing yesterday and they believe that he can still work cause the economy says there are plenty of jobs out there for him. But should have a ruling soon hopefully, but it does not look promising. Unfortunately they were also just informed that Jason was denied medicaid because my sister makes just barely over the qualifying threshold. Therefore all these medical bills will be their responsibility. If you wouldn't mind sharing their story and getting the word out we would be forever grateful. I just wish it wasn't so hard for good hard working people to get the help they need :(
Just over 3 years ago my Brother in Law Jason had a cardiac event while at work. After a visit to the hospital and some medical work ups the doctors sent home home to remain off from work until he had further diagnostics and a follow up with his primary doctor. All the specialists were backed up from COVID and it was taking longer and longer to get answers to be released back to work. Unfortunately, the time line with getting documents to work and available appointments didn't line up and Jason was let go from work and his insurance stopped.
With Brittany being the sole provider of the family, she worked as much as possible and tried to continue to get the testing Jason needed to try to qualify for disability, by paying out of pocket. The process of trying to apply for disability was long and hard as Brittany was trying everything to keep the bills paid and battling her own health issues (the need for 2 different surgeries being put off as someone still needednto be working to bring in the income), then the determination that Jason didn't qualify for disability came through.
Though they were devastated by the result of Jason being denied benefits, Brittany continued working hard to continue paying bills and paying out of pocket for all of Jason's medication, including his insulin for his diabetes.
A few months back Jason was seen locally for a wound on the bottom of his foot, where the doctor didn't note it to be infected and was sent home with no medications. After a second visit to the same doctor to address this same wound, a course of oral antibiotic was started.
They continued the antibiotic and wound care at home trying to manage, but ended up taking him to the Emergency room to have it assessed last week as a second wound appeared on his other foot while still on medications.
After fear of a spreading infection, Jason was transferred to Grand Rapids to be assessed and undergo partial foot amputation on both feet. He is still in the hospital and being treated with IV antibiotics and oral medications trying to get the infection under control even after surgery. Any and all donations would be a huge blessing to this wonderful couple to assist with the mountain of medical bills and lost wages for Brittany to be going back and forth to doctor appointments with Jason once he is released.
Brittany would literally give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She gives constantly at work helping animals and their owners, and gives constantly to her family and friends that she dearly loves. It's time that we show her a little love and compassion as he she continues to give everything she has to the healing of her husband.
