Brittain is a vibrant 25-year-old and a close family friend whose life changed dramatically when she began experiencing pins and needles under the skin in her right arm, tremors in her arm and shoulder, and her fingers and wrist curling inward. After 18 months of seeing various specialists, Brittain was finally diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). This condition affects the nervous system and causes debilitating symptoms, such as weakness and chronic pain, making everyday tasks a challenge. In FND, the brain misinterprets normal signals, leading to movements and symptoms that the person doesn’t feel in control of. It’s a real and challenging condition that requires specialized treatment to retrain the brain’s responses.
Nicholas Flemming, MD, a neurologist with Atrium Health who specializes in movement disorders, recommended Re+Active Wellness and PT Studio in Los Angeles. This program combines cognitive behavioral therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to identify personal triggers, teach coping strategies, and retrain the brain’s responses. This intervention will help Brittain untangle the unique triggers in her brain and individually tailor a treatment plan that will reconnect her brain-body connections—offering hope for meaningful improvement.
Brittain’s diagnosis has led to significant medical expenses, including specialist visits, therapy sessions, and ongoing treatments that are not fully covered by insurance. In addition, Brittain is unable to work full-time due to the severity of symptoms, creating financial strain. Your generous donations will go toward the enrollment fee and medical treatment and therapies in the Re+Active Wellness program. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in Brittain’s journey toward stability and hope. Please share this campaign with friends and family to help Brittain get the care she needs.
