Friends and family - I am Britney's aunt, Lori.

Asking for help is never easy. However, in this case, it is necessary.

Yesterday afternoon, while participating in a Civil War reenactment in Washington State, Britney (my sister's daughter), who is approximately 12 weeks pregnant, suffered a blood clot in the brain which caused a seizure and then a level 3 stroke. While seizing, she also aspirated (fluid in lungs). She was life-flighted to the Swedish Neurological Institute in the Cherry Park area of Seattle where she underwent 6 hours of emergency surgery and in ICU/Critical Care.

Britney is in a medically induced coma and will remain there for several days. They have removed the left side of her skull to allow for brain swelling. She is on a ventilator. There is also a a high risk of pneumonia because of the aspiration.

Meantime, cash flow is low. If you have a few spare dollars, please consider donating to AJ, and Britney to offset the medical & travel expenses incurred during this critical time.

AJ Reed is the sole beneficiary of this account. Be assured that very dollar will go to keeping them solvent for the next few weeks/months.

The most important thing right now is absolutely your prayers. She is going to need your prayers to survive (both her and the baby) and then a long recovery.

The baby: as of this writing, she has NOT lost the baby.

UPDATE Sept 2 From AJ:

:: The amount of love and support from you guys has been nothing short of amazing and humbling. Thank you to everyone for your support and continued thoughts, prayers and good vibes

Britney herself has defied all expectations and shattered progress goals. Since coming out of surgery late Friday night. She is now completely off paralysis and sedation (meds). She responds with a thumbs up or 2 fingers when asked a basic question. If she remains as awesome and strong for the next week, then she will be moved to OHSU to complete the remaining time in ICU there before we go to the next stage.

UPDATE SEPT 6 from AJ:

Today marks 1 week (since Brits aneurysm). She is off paralysis with minimal sedation. She has successfully battled several fevers and completed 6 hours of self breathing without the ventilator. She is able to track with her eyes and can move the majority of her left side when asked.

They will be attempting to remove her breathing tube today AND they have begun giving her prenatal vitamins.

UPDATE SEPT 13 FROM AJ:

Update on Britney-She has the (feeding tube) tube out and is able to talk softly and in short sentences. Has begun to move her right leg on her own with her right hand coming along. Rather than move her to OHSU they have an inpatient facility less than 10 minutes away from the house! Next step is beginning the process of transfer. All of your continued prayers, thoughts and good vibes are doing tremendous work as her strength and sass return.

UPDATE FROM AJ SEPT 17:

Sunday, I woke up to her grinning on the floor after shimming herself off the bed saying she wanted coffee. Yesterday, she stood up and assisted walked 60ft. Today, I got a call saying she was approved for Salem and will be moved this Friday to finish her rehabilitation!!
