Women's Flag Football is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide. These amazing young athletes get to compete in a sport many of us only dreamed of playing. But as juniors and seniors in high school, we did have one time a year where we got to play a football game: POWDERPUFF. I played Powderpuff both years, and for me it was one of the best experiences in high school. I grew up in a football family. Both my parents went to USC and I spent my Saturdays at the Coliseum, listening to my dad repeat, "Follow the ball." We would analyze the plays and try to predict which play would come next. My mother was the more rabid and emotional fan, reveling in the dejected faces of Bruin and Irish fans after a Trojan victory. Thus, I couldn’t wait to experience football, and playing Powderpuff surpassed even my high expectations. But there was a deeper reason: I was ahead of my age group in academics and dance, for which I earned many accolades. Not because I was naturally talented, but because I worked extra hard. I started dancing professionally at age 16; and would wake up at 4am every day to complete my homework, and keep up my 4.0 GPA. I had many guy friends, but was constantly bullied by older girls. Many times I would come home crying, wanting to quit everything, only my mother would not let me. She insisted that I find a way to stand up for myself. Usually, female bullying is underhanded and often invisible to others. Fighting back usually gets wrongly branded as aggression, when it’s really self-defense. For me, Powderpuff also became a way to stand up to the girls who had bullied me throughout high school. I played cornerback, and I LOVED making tackles, I mean pulling flags. Those girls never bothered me again. I believe in this film. We will make this movie. I hope you’ll join us for the journey.
Now, I am raising funds to submit the application for the California Film Tax Credit. To do this, I need to hire a writer and actors to workshop the script, a line producer to create a shooting schedule and budget, a casting director to secure key talent, and possibly a lawyer to help with talent agreements. This process will take about 3–4 weeks, and your support will help me bring this story to life. Your contribution will empower me to overcome challenges and share a film that celebrates women's strength, resilience, and the joy of playing football. Thank you for believing in this project and joining me on this journey.
