Hi everyone,

My name is Daniel Aguilar, and I’m an independent Latinx filmmaker passionate about telling stories that reflect the complexities within our communities — stories often overlooked, but deeply felt. I’m currently raising funds for my upcoming short film, "Uneasy Moments" — a quiet, devastating story about family, mental health, and the fragile points in time that can change everything.

About the Film:

In "Uneasy Moments", a young Latina woman steps out to pick up her mother’s schizophrenia medication. What was meant to be a simple, routine errand takes a tragic turn when a disturbing incident unfolds back at home, leaving irreversible consequences in its wake.

This is a story rooted in the Latinx experience — the pressures of caretaking, generational trauma, and the often unspoken realities of dealing with mental illness within our families. It’s about those uneasy moments we rarely talk about, but which shape us forever.

Filmed Like a Home Video:

To capture the raw, intimate nature of "Uneasy Moments", the film will be shot in the style of a home video — grainy, handheld, and personal. This choice reflects the deeply private world of the characters and makes the audience feel like an unseen witness to a family’s most vulnerable, uneasy moments. It’s meant to feel authentic, unpolished, and hauntingly familiar, mirroring the way memories — especially painful ones — are often replayed in our minds.

Why It Matters:

Mental health is a subject that impacts every community, but in Latinx households, it’s often stigmatized or pushed aside. This film creates space for empathy, visibility, and much-needed conversations. "Uneasy Moments" is about the tension in everyday life, the weight of responsibility, and how quickly everything can change — especially for those of us living between cultural expectations and personal struggles.

This film was written from a personal, vulnerable place, and I hope it resonates with those who have lived through similar experiences.
