HELP US BRING UNCLE MIKE HOME
As many of you may know, my Uncle Mike Bethoney has suffered from back issues since he got injured in 1978. At 67 years old, he has had over ten surgeries and has spent months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers all over the state. Yet despite all of his best efforts, he was faced with surgery on October 4th. The surgeons had to go in and remove some of his spinal column to allow spinal fluid to flow. Three weeks later, he had to have emergency surgery to remove pockets of blood that clotted along his spine. Unfortunately, these surgeries have left him unable to use his legs...paralyzed from the waist down. As you can imagine, the adaptive equipment and home modification costs needed to bring him home are daunting.
Mike is working very hard to get some use back in his legs, but despite his hard work at the Spalding, he has not progressed. As a result of these limitations, Uncle Mike will now be “stuck” in a nursing home because his home is not conducive to someone in a wheelchair.
As his wife fights day and night to get the supplies he needs to come home, they are not able to find any help thus far. Uncle Mike will need ramps, a lift (approx. $3400), an electric wheelchair ($20,000, he needs to pay $7,000), a shower (approx. $10,000), a handicapped vehicle (approx. $20,000), a shower chair (approx. $1200), not to mention a maraud of medications, and disposable supplies.
Almost all of these items are NOT COVERED OR PARTIALLY COVERED BY INSURANCE. If we cannot buy these items for Mike, he will be forced to live the rest of his life in a nursing home.
If you know my family, you know that is not an option. We will do whatever it takes to bring him home…This is where GO FUND ME comes in. We are asking our family, friends, and everyone we know to please consider helping us bring Uncle Mike home. We are still working on getting him better insurance and finding grants to help defray costs, but we have not been able to secure any funds.
Please consider donating to help us. No amount is too small. In addition to money, we are still praying for a miracle and ask you to keep Uncle Mike in your prayers.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
The Family of Michael Bethoney
