The journey of turning a childhood hobby into a dream career as a professional sports athlete, whilst fulfilling and rewarding, can be a long, challenging and complicated road. Over the past few years, heightened awareness through mental health charities continue to bring 'mental wellbeing' into the spotlight and there has been an emerging shift towards the support of athletes' mental health.
The unfolding story of success and failure makes sport so compelling to the millions of fans following it. But in and and amongst is a partner and family sharing both the joy of winning and the pressures that come with it. Whilst they are recognised as part of the athlete’s ‘team’ there is little or no guidance for those ‘at home’ in managing this day to day rollercoaster – this is what Beyond the Sidelines aspires to change.
Beyond the Sidelines brings together a trusted community of professional athlete families who care, support and educate one another to drive long-term positive wellbeing. BTS will offer support and guidance to partners and families so they no longer have to often struggle alone in a complex and rollercoaster of a life.
In an era of heightened mental health awareness and support, the area is still overlooked in the sporting world is the importance of the mental health of the complete family 'team'. Beyond the Sidelines is voluntary funded but by additional donations we believe we can make a change by encouraging the industry to place more focus in supporting the total 'home', aiming to ultimately drive positive outcomes both on the pitch and beyond the sidelines.
