Two days ago, we got a call that changed everything.

A baby boy was born in New York and is currently in the NICU going through withdrawal (NAS). We were asked to step in, and we are now moving forward with adopting him.

He is the younger brother of our 19-month-old daughter, Danielle, who we are also in the process of adopting. She started her life in the NICU under similar circumstances. We’ve walked this road before, and we’re ready to do it again for him.

We are currently working closely with state Children and Youth Services, who have been incredibly supportive as we navigate this process and work toward bringing him into our family.

Right now, we are in Georgia, and he is in New York. We haven’t even been able to meet him yet.

Our immediate goal is to get there as quickly as possible, be present with him in the NICU, and begin the legal process to bring him home.

Here’s the reality:

Without the ability to move quickly, he may have to enter temporary care while the process plays out.

Our goal is to prevent that and bring him home to his family as soon as possible.

We are raising funds to help cover travel from Georgia to New York so we can be with him during his NICU stay, time away from work to remain present for his care and legal process, and legal costs required to secure custody and bring him home to Georgia.

If we are able to raise enough, it allows us to get to him sooner, stay with him, and help move the process forward so he can leave the hospital and come home to his family instead of entering temporary care.

We also want to be transparent: if anything changes and the adoption does not move forward, all donations will be returned.
