Volunteers don’t just care for the dogs who come through our shelter doors, we fall in love with them. And that love runs especially deep for our long-stay dogs. Theo is one of those dogs.
When Theo first arrived at Austin Animal Services, he was completely emaciated. It took time, patience, and so much care to help him gain weight, rebuild his strength, and start to trust again. Along the way, he formed incredible bonds with volunteers who refused to give up on him.
After more than 500 days at the shelter, we were overjoyed when Theo was finally adopted and made his way to California. Like everyone, we hoped this was his forever. But sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Theo was recently surrendered to a high-kill shelter in California. While we won’t focus on the circumstances that led to that decision, what matters now is this: Theo needs us again—and we’re not turning our backs on him.
Saving Theo has taken a village:
- He needed California rescues to advocate for him.
- He needed volunteers willing to travel and bring him back.
- He needed an Austin rescue to sponsor him.
- He needed a committed, long-term foster in Austin.
What once felt impossible became reality because of this incredible community and the people who love Theo so fiercely.
Now, we’re at the final step: getting him home. We are raising funds to cover the costs of bringing Theo back to Austin which will cover:
- Flight from Austin to California
- Rental car and gas to drive back to Austin
- Lodging for the journey
- A donation to Pit Crew (the California rescue who helped get him out of the shelter)
- A donation to LAPP Dog Rescue who is sponsoring him and his foster. They have truly helped save Theo's life.
Theo has fought so hard. He deserves safety, stability, and a real second chance. Thank you for being part of his story and for helping us bring him home.
