Update 10/15/25:
I had a few meetings today and it was recommended that I get the licensing process rolling for the school ASAP, as the process in the state of Michigan can take quite awhile. I have explored the licensing website and applications several times, but now it’s time to hit the gas, apply for inspections and really make things happen!
With that being said, this process can be quite expensive. Each inspection has its own set of fees attached. I am reaching out to ask for support in continuing to fund this project while I continue to seek funding from financial establishments and/or investors.
Speaking of funding, I am looking at a variety of options including business loans, personal loans, private investors and grants. If this is your forte or you know someone who might be interested in investing, please reach out! I would love to learn and pick as many brains as possible!
Thank you so much, everyone, for your love and support! We’re getting there!
Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
After 12 years of pouring my heart into early childhood education, I’m finally taking the leap to build the school I’ve always dreamed of — The Wonder Nest. This is more than a business. This is a lifelong calling, and I’m asking for your support to help bring it to life.
The Wonder Nest will be a small, nature-inspired early childhood center opening in 2026 at Avon and John R in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Our approach is simple and powerful: put joy and humanity first. Here, children will be cherished for exactly who they are. They will be free to explore, to wonder, to feel, to question — and to play like children should.
What sets The Wonder Nest apart:
More time outside, rain or shine — because nature is our best educator.
Deep social-emotional learning, grounded in kindness and psychological safety.
A cozy, home-like environment where every child feels seen, safe, and celebrated.
Real, authentic play — not worksheets and pressure, but curiosity, imagination, and connection.
I am also in the process of becoming a Learning Wild Developmentalist, joining a global movement of educators dedicated to rewilding childhood. This means our space will be intentionally designed to foster deep connection with the land, rich open-ended play, and a truly holistic early learning experience. It’s a philosophy that puts children back in rhythm with the natural world and honors their deep, innate wisdom.
This is not just a center. It’s a sanctuary. It’s a community. It’s the answer to what so many families are yearning for in their child’s early years — a place that respects the magic of childhood.
But building this kind of haven takes resources. Startup costs are high — from licensing, materials, and furnishings to outdoor gear and high-quality play environments. I am doing everything I can on my own, but I cannot do this alone.
If you believe children deserve more joy...
If you believe teachers deserve to create with love, not pressure...
If you’ve ever wished your child had a place like this…
Please consider donating. Every single dollar brings us closer to opening the doors of The Wonder Nest.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this dream — and the children whose lives it will shape forever.
With love and deep gratitude,
Alex Keefer
