SHORT SUMMARY

"The Underdogs is an upcoming 10 episode series that will be uploaded to Youtube. It follows college freshman Evan (Dylan Diaz), as he and his newfound friends (Franko Cruz, Madisen Lora, Tadhg Ignaffo) attempt to make a name for themselves by winning their school’s yearly Student Film Competition and proving Jack (Nate Clancy), that the little guys have a place in a world filled with bigger competition. It’s a story that deals with themes about belonging, the beauty of imperfection, being true to yourself, and letting go of the past. It combines drama and comedy to tell a story of what essentially is four troubled people who on paper, shouldn’t be able to work together, but in the end they have to. Alas, the question is; Will they succeed?"

Hey everyone! My name is Dylan Diaz, and apart from being the creator of The Underdogs, I am also a writer and a director for a good chunk of the episodes. If you're reading this, thank you for taking the time, this project means a lot to me and the rest of the cast and crew.

The Underdogs is a project I hold close to my heart. It means the world to me, and it wouldn't do it justice not making it the best project it can be. It might only be my second project, but that doesn't change the fact that I want to make it a BIG one. I want our voices to be heard, and I want the people who might find themselves relating to it, to feel seen.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT TO US

When people hear "student project" the first thing that might come to mind is "there's a good chance it's bad". I get it! i mean, how good can a project by a student be? And while we can't change what people might think, we can very much prove them wrong.

I'm thankful to have a crew and an INCREDIBLY talented cast, but the truth is, we have no real funds. As of now, everything is coming out of pocket. However, if we got our hands on the funds we need, we could do wonders and make the series look and feel great for something that's available for free on Youtube.

By using the possible funds raised, we could afford props, costumes, equipment and more crew to help with post-production. I don't want to give away too much, but one specific episode could truly be "outstanding" by reaching its full potential, and it can be made possible by backing this project. Due to the fact that the sets for each episode will have crew and cast members present, we'll also need to provide meals for every person since we'll spend a lot of time on set. I’m thankful that people are taking part of this project without any thought of compensation, but they do however need to be looked after and food is one of the many things we'll need to provide after long shoots.

We know in times like these money is tight, but truly, ANYTHING helps. We also know some of you might want to contribute, but can't, and that's okay! Sharing this with friends, families and communities also goes a long way! It only takes one person to make a difference.

WHAT IT MEANS TO US

As a little kid, making stories was something I always wanted to do, and that's a dream that's coming true. It's actually a goal each of the crew and cast members have. To tell stories whether it's through writing or acting, or however it might look like.

Funding our project only allows us tell the story the way it was meant to be told. To not have as many roadblocks, and to have a chance to tell the story we want without any limits.

These characters mean a lot to us. We spend hours in the writing room dissecting them and their unique stories. We write each episode with the intention of telling a story, and keeping the viewer wanting more.

In conclusion, thank you for your time, your attention and your support (however that ends up looking like). I hope you guys can feel the desire to tell this story as much as we do.
