Help Two Incredible Classes Experience the Magic of Live Theater!
We are raising funds to send two amazing classes from our Title I school on a much-deserved field trip—an experience that will expand their horizons, build community, and create lifelong memories.

‍ Who We Are ‍
Our school serves a high-needs population, and our classrooms reflect the vibrant diversity and resilience of our community. The two classes we’re fundraising for are:

A Special Education class: Full of students with unique strengths and learning needs, who thrive on experiential learning.

A Dual Language class: Hard working students who are mastering academic content in two languages.

Both classes: Made up primarily of English language learners who all have rich cultural backgrounds.

Though these classes differ in structure, they are united by their curiosity, kindness, and determination. They learn in the same school, and this field trip will be a powerful opportunity for them to connect, collaborate, and celebrate their growth together.

About Our Students
Our students are lovable, courageous, and full of potential. They come to school each day ready to learn, explore, and support one another. Academically, they range in reading levels from early kindergarten through third grade, and they work incredibly hard to overcome challenges and reach their goals.

Culturally, they are joyful ambassadors of their families and communities—sharing stories, traditions, and perspectives that enrich our classroom every day. They are resilient learners who approach each challenge with heart and perseverance.

As their teachers, we am honored to guide them and are deeply committed to providing as many pathways to success as possible—including experiences beyond the classroom.

About the Field Trip: Miss Nelson Is Missing!
This year, our students will attend a live performance of Miss Nelson Is Missing!—a beloved children’s story brought to life on stage with humor, mystery, and vibrant theatricality. The production captures the whimsical essence of the tale, delighting audiences of all ages.

In this stage adaptation, the story revolves around Room 207, where Miss Nelson, the sweetest teacher in the world, faces a group of unruly students who take her kindness for granted. One day, Miss Nelson doesn’t show up for class, and the students are faced with the terrifying substitute teacher, Viola Swamp, whose strict and demanding demeanor turns their world upside down. As the students try to figure out what happened to their beloved Miss Nelson, they come to appreciate her more and realize the error of their ways.

For many of our students, this will be their first time experiencing live theater—and we want to make it unforgettable.

Pre-Trip Learning
To prepare for the performance, we will read Miss Nelson Is Missing! together in class. This read-aloud will help students:

  • Build background knowledge and story comprehension
  • Practice listening and reading skills in both English and Spanish
  • Engage in discussions about character, plot, and themes
  • Make predictions and connections that deepen their understanding

By the time they arrive at the theater, our students will be fully immersed in the story and ready to experience it in a whole new way—through costumes, music, and live performance.

Learning Goals & Post-Trip Work
This field trip is directly connected to our upcoming literacy unit: Module 4 – Stories on Stage.

After the trip, students will:

  • Explore the essential question of the Module: Why might some stories be better told as plays?
  • Identify elements of drama they witnessed during the performance
  • Compare the book and the play versions of Miss Nelson Is Missing! to determine which format they prefer and why
  • Reflect on how storytelling changes when it’s performed live

This experience will not only reinforce literacy skills—it will ignite imagination, deepen comprehension, and build critical thinking.
