Hi, I’m Michelle Laverick — an independent songwriter, folk-influenced storyteller, and creator of atmospheric songs that blend the traditional with the personal. If you’ve followed my musical journey from my debut EP Selkie Child (2024), my well-received album Songs from a Cold Conservatory (2023), or my latest single Oak and Ash and Thorn (2025), then you’ll know I’m passionate about reimagining folk traditions through a modern, heartfelt lens.

Now I’m asking for your help to fund my next chapter: an EP titled The Helm Winds.

This collection features four brand new original songs and two radical reinterpretations of traditional folk material — where I keep the soul of the story but rework the melodies and lyrics to give them a fresh voice. The title track was written during a transformative songwriting retreat in Scotland, guided by the wonderful Iona Lane and Katie Spencer, and it anchors the whole record.

The EP will contain five tracks, plus a bonus sixth track — my recent single. The final running time will be around 30–35 minutes. (Yes, it’s a proper modern EP — not the 10-inch vinyls of old!)
