Help Bring the Aucaylles Home

Starting in October 2020, Christina Aucaylle started experiencing health problems which were confirmed several months later to be caused by mold intoxication. The root cause has been tied to multiple long-term water issues in the family’s home. Most substantially among these is a failed basement sump pump.

The family engaged a testing company, which confirmed mold levels in the home were extremely high and that they needed to leave their home immediately. The testing company also indicated that the home’s basement walls, ceilings, HVAC system and appliances were all contaminated. Additionally, they noted the roof required replacement and several areas of the attic must be re-insulated. Lastly, all of the home’s soft surfaces had to be disposed of in order to make the home safe for them to live in.

 

The Aucaylles have been displaced from their home since July, and have been staying with friends in the area.

 

The insurance adjuster completed an inspection, and confirmed the damage; however, the family’s insurance policy is expected to only cover $10,000 on account of a mold clause that prevented a more robust settlement.

 

On September 6th, several friends of the Aucaylles began necessary demolition to the basement, exposing walls to the studs, and removing the HVAC from the ceilings and walls to make way for a mold remediation company. It took several weeks to engage a company to inspect (many have been unresponsive on account of this summer’s excessive rain, i.e., Hurricane Ida among others this year). The company’s quote to just clean the mold (no re-construction included) is equal to $50,000.

 

This family is dealing with significant financial loss and it has been a very stressful and difficult time for them, which is prompting my appeal on their behalf. In addition to the above, the family will need to replace more than $15,000 in appliances and furniture, $5,000 in construction materials, and another $5,000 for a replacement heating system.

 

Despite the fact that the aforementioned losses exceed what we are asking, the goal of my appeal is equal to $50,000. I appreciate any amount that you can donate. The Aucaylles are the most loving family and have always been there to help others in need by participating in meal trains and work parties, and donating both their money and time; they are routinely the first ones to jump-in. However, this situation in particular has been extremely overwhelming. They need our help, and I cannot think of a family who is more deserving.
