Why am I talking about Athy Roll Club again?
Over the past year, many people have asked me why this project matters so much to me.
The answer is very simple.
Because I don’t want to spend my life living paycheck to paycheck and constantly depending on circumstances.
I want to build something of my own.
Not a huge restaurant chain. Not a business just for appearances or social media. I want to start with a small kitchen, quality ingredients, and people who genuinely enjoy what I create.
When I moved to Athy, I noticed how few options there were if you wanted to order really good sushi. That’s when the idea for Athy Roll Club was born.
I started learning everything I needed to know: registering a home food business, food safety requirements, licences, suppliers, packaging, equipment, and certifications. The more I learned, the more certain I became that this is what I truly want to do.
But every idea eventually comes down to money.
To get started, I need ingredients, professional equipment, packaging, business registration, training, and dozens of other things that people don’t usually think about.
That’s exactly why I started this fundraiser.
And no, this is not a fundraiser to support my everyday living expenses.
It’s a fundraiser to give me the opportunity to start earning independently.
I often read comments like:
“Go get a job like everyone else.”
And you know what?
I completely agree.
People should work.
That’s exactly why I’ve already received a job offer as a Healthcare Assistant, and I’m currently waiting for my Garda Vetting and paperwork to be completed so I can start working.
I’ve never said that I don’t want to work.
But I also have another goal.
One day, I don’t want my future to depend only on a paycheck.
I want to build something of my own.
Not because I think I’m special.
Not because I believe running a business is easy.
Quite the opposite.
I understand that building a business is much harder than simply getting a job.
And that’s exactly why I’m trying.
Some people choose the security of employment.
Others choose to build something of their own.
Neither path makes anyone better or worse.
They’re simply different paths.
And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with honestly asking:
“Is there anyone here who believes in this idea enough to help bring it to life?”
If the answer is no, I won’t be upset.
I’ll find another way.
I’ll work.
I’ll save money.
I’ll move more slowly.
But I’ll still reach my goal.
And if the answer is yes, then every contribution will become part of the Athy Roll Club story from its very first day.
Maybe a few years from now, we’ll all look back at this post and smile, remembering that this is where it all began.
Thank you to everyone who believes not only in the finished result, but also in the people who are brave enough to build something from the ground up. ❤️
