Help bring Gilles' work to life before the candle goes out

In his 59 years, Gilles Goyette has brought to the world impactful creations in a variety of media. Always independent, he’s explored whatever interested him regardless of convention or fashion. The result is a singular oeuvre that includes visual art, photography, and “sound painting”.
In 2023, Gilles was diagnosed with cancer, and all treatment options have now been exhausted. His friends Sara and Michael want to help him realize this project through Michael’s production company, House of ShAkE (where Gilles is a “Resident Creator”).
We want him to be able to hold the book in his hands – the culmination of decades of thought, experimentation, and craft. Super Vox combines Gilles’ passion for handwriting & drawing, for epic & modern poetry, and for the extension of human creativity through technology.
It began in 1984 with formal experiments on his mother’s Hermes 3000 typewriter using his stream-of-consciousness journals as material. In 2011, triggered by what turned out to be a nonsensical spam email (from “Super Max, gentleman, Max, gentleman enlargement pills”), he began a deep dive into random generated text and Large Language Models, looking for a voice not limited by his own prejudices and ego.
With the concentration of a monk illuminating a manuscript by candlelight, Gilles painstakingly copied out an ocean of generated text into 160 pages of minute, rippling, but perfectly legible lettering. It’s an endless flow of moments, clusters of sense and nonsense cresting and fading away. It’s a pleasure-ride filled with unknown treasures – if you learn to breathe under water.
The book includes a facsimile of this artwork, a typeset transcription of the text, and an afterword essay by Michael entitled “For the Time-Being in God-Country” (that’s us, today).
Super Vox promises to be a volume of striking beauty. We also believe it’s destined to be an important artistic response to our time – a collaboration between spirit and artificial intelligence, between the human hand and the voice of meaning itself.
