Logline: When moving to the city with her best friend doesn’t immediately produce career results, Olive wrestles with her morality and sense of self as she attempts to find success through stand-up comedy.

A little about the director:

As an applicant for many internships and club positions she hasn’t been offered, Ava-Claire Castleman understands what it means to yearn for success in a city of millions. But as a lover and writer of sketch comedy, she is determined to find the humor in failure and the opportunity in floundering. She feels passionately that coming-of-age stories have the most power to inspire and offer a life-line of relatability for audiences. This is why she felt driven to write “Forgot to Laugh,” a film that explores insecurity, a yearning to be extraordinary, and the inevitable jealousy that accompanies the friendship of young people in their twenties.

The film’s main character, Olive, feels burdened by her career’s stagnant nature and is possessed by comparison. Her view of herself is so incredibly skewed by the expectations she has set for herself, which leads her to act in ways she normally never would. The feelings Olive experiences are relatable to almost everyone, but she doesn’t seem to know that. This film aims to demonstrate to viewers the dangerous path forged by valuing achievement over what truly matters. Hopefully, viewers will walk away from the film feeling emboldened to live a life they’ll be able to look back on and laugh.
