Shauna’s seizures started about 14 years ago. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a stage 4 astrocytoma. The first tumor was big but she was still able to work and drive then, as she had an idea that the seizures were coming. Shauna underwent 7 weeks of radiation and 2.5 years of chemo that came in a pill form, and did well for a while. She went for biannual checkups and things were fine, but just a little while later she started having short blackout seizures. The first ones only lasted 30 seconds to a minute. Shauna went back to see her doctor and there is a small size tumor that returned. The doctor recommended that Shauna rest for a few days. She did and nothing changed. She said to try it for a little longer. That was 5.5 years ago and the blackout seizures last 15 minutes now. Shauna can't drive, go out by herself, cook, cut anything with a knife, load the dishwasher and many other day to day things that we often take for granted. She is in a wheelchair when she is by herself, and wears a safety helmet most of the time. Shauna is getting a service dog to help her know when she is going to have a blackout seizure so she will be safe and be less susceptible to falls or injuries. Her dog, named Stitch, will be coming in September, and Shauna needs help to pay for him to be delivered and for the two of them to be trained together. Stitch has been in training for the last 1.75 years and it is time for him come home. Please help make this dream a reality and help Shauna gain back some of her independence. Thank you for your help!
