As we approach one year without our mom, Starla Goings, we are still left with more questions than answers.
For nearly a year, our family has fought every single day to keep Starla’s name in the public eye, search for answers, and advocate for the justice she deserves. We are incredibly grateful for the continued work of law enforcement and know they are still actively investigating her disappearance. However, after nearly a year without the answers our family desperately needs, we feel that it is time to seek additional resources that can work alongside the ongoing investigation.
It has been too long. It is time to bring our mom home.
As Starla’s children, we have also found ourselves carrying responsibilities we never imagined we would have to face. In addition to coping with the disappearance of our mother, we have been left with the responsibility of advocating for her, protecting her interests and estate, and doing everything we can to keep the investigation into her disappearance moving forward—including pursuing help through private means.
These are circumstances we could never have financially prepared for.
We do not have access to our mother's assets to fund these efforts, leaving the financial responsibility on us. We are both young and still building our careers, and the costs associated with attorneys, private investigators, professional search resources, and the travel required to continue advocating and searching for our mom can quickly become overwhelming.
We don't want finances to be the reason we cannot pursue a lead, consult an attorney, hire an investigator, bring in a specialized search team, or follow another avenue that could finally help us find our mom.
That is why we are humbly asking our friends, family, community, and everyone who has followed Starla's story to help us continue this fight.
Donations will be used toward expenses including:
Legal fees associated with protecting Starla's interests and pursuing justice on her behalf.
Private investigators who can provide additional investigative resources and pursue avenues outside of the official investigation.
Professional search teams, including Human Remains Detection (HRD) K-9 teams and other specialized search resources.
Travel expenses associated with searches, meetings, legal matters, and other efforts related to Starla's disappearance.
Search operations, equipment, and other necessary expenses directly related to finding our mother and getting the answers our family has been fighting for.
We want to be clear that seeking outside assistance does not mean that law enforcement has stopped working on Starla's case. We remain grateful for those who continue investigating her disappearance. But as her children, we cannot simply wait. If there is something more we can do to find our mother, we have to try.
Every dollar donated gives us another resource, another opportunity, and another avenue to pursue.
We are committed to being transparent and responsible with every donation we receive. If funds remain after they are no longer needed for reasonable efforts related to finding Starla, protecting her interests, and pursuing justice on her behalf, 100% of the remaining funds will be donated to a domestic violence charity in Starla's honor. We hope that, in some small way, those funds can help another victim or family facing circumstances no one should ever have to endure.
This fundraiser is ultimately about one thing:
Bringing our mom home.
We never imagined that almost a year later, we would still be asking where she is. We never imagined having to learn how to navigate investigations, attorneys, searches, media, and everything else that has come with fighting for answers. But we will continue doing it for as long as we have to.
We will continue searching.
We will continue asking questions.
We will continue speaking her name.
And we will continue fighting for Starla until she is home.
