Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to help Jennifer bring her daughter home. She is still in Ontario, however because she's found out some distessing news. Skylar was murdered. And as of right now, the police are not interested in investigating. More details to come.

The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help my friend Jennifer raise funds to bring home her eldest daughter for a dignified funeral and burial in New Brunswick.
My name is Carrie. When I was 12 years old, I met my best friend, Jennifer at the start of middle school. We got on like a house on fire. Giggling, laughing, giving each other nicknames. We talked about boys and what we'd do when we grew up... Not once during the course of our 35 year friendship did I ever think I'd be writing up a GoFundMe to help her retrieve the body of her eldest child so that she could be laid to rest alongside her father.
Skyler Rain Casey was born Rose Mickayla Shannine Devarenne on October 29, 1998. I remember talking to Jennifer on the phone when her small family was living in Edmonton, her telling all about her daughter. "I have a little girl!" she told me, excitedly. Her daughter was a genetic mirror image of Jennifer; you could look at photos when she was older and honestly mistake them for twins.
While Jennifer moved back home to New Brunswick from Edmonton with her four younger daughters, Skyler eventually ended up in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Her life was not always easy. While she had two daughters of her own, her addictions led her down a very dark road, despite efforts from her mother and sisters. On September 8th, 2025, Jennifer was given the news that no parent is prepared to hear; Skyler had passed the day before on September 7th. Not only did her first baby, her eldest daughter, pass without any family to guide her home, Jenn only found out about it 24 hours later.
I am completely gutted for my friend. I would not wish this on anyone. Babies may grow and make their own choices and it may be painful to watch sometimes, but parents should never have to bury their children, no matter how old they are. Jennifer is now tasked with retrieving her daughter's body, transporting it back to New Brunswick, and to pay for an unexpected funeral and burial. The magnitude of loss that Jennifer, her daughters and granddaughters are going to endure will be painfully etched into their lives for the remainder of their days. This request is to help ease that burden financially, so that she and her daughters have one less worry to dwell on. Any amount is greatly appreciated and hopefully, will help her to pick up & glue back togther some of the pieces of her shattered heart.
