Shawn Jamal Barco was my son, and he was special because he always tried to help people. In spite of his own challenges, Shawn put others ahead of himself and rarely asked for anything, because he was fiercely independent. He was a survivor, determined to make something of himself despite everything he had been through. Shawn loved his mother, sisters, nephew, father, and nieces deeply, and his kindness touched everyone around him.

Tragically, Shawn was taken from us when someone ran him over, leaving our family devastated. As a mother, I am crushed and not prepared for this loss. I am reaching out for help because I need support to bring Shawn’s body from Milwaukee to Norfolk, VA, and to cover the costs of cremation. This is something I never imagined I would have to do, and the financial burden is overwhelming.
