Help Bring Rog Home: - Bad to the Bone - Recovery Fundraiser

On Friday, November 22nd, my dad was on his way from Kelowna to Vancouver, eagerly anticipating a Bruce Springsteen concert. His journey took a devastating turn when he encountered treacherous weather conditions on the Coquihalla Connector near Merritt. A single vehicle accident, reportedly caused by hitting a coat of slush over black ice on a steep hill, propelled and flipped his vehicle off the road. Airbags failed to deploy, and he was rushed to the hospital with a major blunt force trauma to the head. He remained in a self-induced coma for 43 days.

The past six months have been an unimaginable journey of resilience and determination. Gradually, Rog began to show signs of cognition, responding to stimuli, holding hands, and moving the right side of his body. By January, he was demonstrating growing signs of consciousness, gaining the ability to communicate by using his hands and nodding.

While his progress is nothing short of miraculous, the reality of his recovery is a long and arduous one. The greatest damage was to the right side of his brain, leaving his left side largely immobile since the accident.

Why We Need Your Help

Working together as a family unit has been absolutely critical throughout this healing journey. Our lives have been put on hold, temporary relocations have been made and daily extended periods of time at the hospital have been necessary in order to surround Roger with an immense amount of love and daily care. The financial burden of this tragedy has been immense and growing.

Our Goal: Bring Roger Home & Support His Recovery

To aid Rog’s transition home and to give him a chance at a real future, we plan to replace the vehicle lost in the accident with one that is wheelchair accessible, we also hope to raise enough funds to support the gaps in care required in order to bring him home. This concert aims to ease the immense financial stress on Roger and our family, allowing us to focus all our energy on his care and rehabilitation.

When: Saturday August 30th, 2025

Where: A beautiful property on the water out in Mission with a killer setup for live music both indoors and out, and a wild, natural landscape for campers.

What to Bring:

Food: Potluck style! Bring your favourite food to share.

Camping: Camp amongst the trees - Tents and RVs are welcome.
