Support Canine Rico’s Retirement

I have teamed up Amy Swope with Blue Ridge Canine Safe house to help raise the money for the new Sheriffs office Canine so that Canine Rico can retire! This is official GoFundMe!

We have put together a volunteer team to help raise the funding for the next Augusta County Sheriff’s Office K9 so current K9 Rico can retire with his handler. The handler of current K9 Rico has left the force, and K9 Rico has the opportunity to retire a little early and join his handler. Rico is a trained narcotics K9 and has spent the past 4 years keeping our community safe. Sheriff Donald Smith is allowing us the opportunity to provide the Sheriff’s Office a new K9 and allow Rico to enjoy his retirement with his former handler. This new K9 will cost the Sheriff’s Office $19,000. This cost is standard in the K9 industry and pays for the highest level of breeding and intense training needed to select and prepare the K9 for the line of duty. If you can help us raise the funds for the purchase of a new K9, we would truly be grateful as this is one donation closer to Rico’s retirement. If the entire amount is not raised, we will refund your donation through this fundraising platform minus the 2.9% credit card fee. We have raised the needed amount from $19,000 to $20,000 to help cover the fees associated with GoFundMe. If there is additional money raised, it will be donated to the Sheriff’s Office to provide equipment or further training for the new K9.
