At The Poetry Salon we are on a mission to bring more poetry into the community. Reading and writing poetry, especially in a group, can help people of all ages feel seen, heard, empowered and more empathetic towards others.

This fall I offer my popular workshop "Writer as Editor (and Mentor)" on a donation basis. In this workshop I teach some of the most useful skills and principles I've learned from my M.A. program in the psychology of creativity, plus over fifteen years of teaching creative writing to kids and adults. Participants will learn useful practices for selecting poems, using poems as teaching tools, and guiding other writers to get inspired, stay inspired, and do their best work. We'll end with a discussion of the many ways writers can bring creativity into their community, from working on a press to teaching at a youth center, senior center, in schools and more.

Donations go to offering scholarships and tuition assistance to poets at The Poetry Salon, making it possible for more writers to work with us no matter what their financial situation may be.
