Hi, we are Lorrene and Andrea, this gofundme is on behalf of our mom, Spring.

On February 1, our mom was detained overseas after being manipulated through an online romance scam. She was deceived by someone she believed she was in a genuine relationship with and was convinced to travel with luggage that, unknowingly to her, contained illegal substances. She is now being held in South Korea while the legal process unfolds.

Our mom is deaf and has cognitive challenges that affect her judgment and decision-making. She is extremely trusting and vulnerable, which sadly made her an easy target for someone with harmful intentions. We, as her family, are completely heartbroken and confused.

Alone in a foreign country, within a system she does not understand, our mom is potentially facing years in prison without full ability to communicate due to her hearing impairment. All we want as her family is proper representation that can communicate with her and defend her.

We are working closely with lawyers and the Canadian Consulate to fight for her and demonstrate that she was a victim of exploitation.

So far, our family has paid significant legal retainers, and the costs are continuing to rise as investigations and court proceedings move forward. We’ve had to vacate her residence and sell off her belongings to pay for representation. When she does eventually come home, she will no longer be coming home to the life she once knew.

We are humbly asking for help to cover:

• Legal fees

• ASL interpreter costs.

• Ongoing support while she is detained.

• Help to rebuild her life when she returns home.

If you know our mom, you know her heart. She is kind, loving, and deeply cares about everyone around her. She made a mistake in trusting the wrong person, but she did not knowingly commit a crime. She is not a trafficker. She is a vulnerable woman who was manipulated and exploited. She is not a criminal. She is our mom.
