Our father is the head of our household and has worked every day as a field worker since he first arrived in this country. As a single parent, he has provided for his family, feeding four children and making sure each of us had the chance for a better life. Thanks to his sacrifices, one of us has earned a Bachelor’s degree, two more are pursuing their own degrees, and his son is proudly serving as a Marine. Our father is like so many others here, working hard, paying his bills and taxes, and keeping his trust and faith in God. He came to this country seeking better opportunities and a brighter future for his children.

Recently, our father was taken from us in a way that was both shocking and heartbreaking. While attending an immigration meeting for his green card, ICE ambushed the interview, detained him, and put him in cuffs as if he had committed a terrible crime. All he wanted was a chance to see his mother again, and this interview was a light of hope for him. That hope was stripped away in an instant. Now, he is being held like a prisoner, separated from the family who loves and needs him.
