It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our father, DanielBlairGerard, a proud member of the Muskoday First Nation and of Cree heritage, who served his country and his community with honor.
Dad was a proud member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and after his time in the military, he continued his life of hard work and dedication as a member of the Laborers' International Union of North America, Local Union 180.
After his time in service, Dad continued to grow and express himself in other ways. He attended the University of Saskatchewan (USask), where he nurtured his love for art. He was an amazing artist, and his creativity was one of the many gifts he shared with those around him. His artwork reflected the depth of his spirit and the pride he carried in his heritage.
While visiting his sons in Hamilton, Ontario, Dad passed away suddenly, leaving our family heartbroken and facing the difficult task of bringing him home to Saskatchewan so he can be laid to rest with his people.
Our father lived a life of service, love, and resilience. His passing was unexpected, and we are now trying to cover the funeral costs and the expense of transporting him back home to Muskoday.
We are reaching out to family, friends, and our community for support during this difficult time. Any donation, big or small, will help us give Dad the respectful farewell he deserves and bring him back to his homeland.
Honoring His Legacy
Any donations not used directly toward Dad’s funeral costs will be donated to VETS Canada, an organization that provides ground support to Veterans in need, connecting them with health care, housing, and other crucial services. Dad was a big supporter of fellow Veterans, and it saddened him deeply in his later years to see so many who served living on the streets. Supporting this cause in his memory feels like a fitting way to honor his life and values.
If you are unable to contribute financially, please know that sharing this fundraiser also means so much to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support.
— With love,
Mathew, Trevor, and Wendy
