Help Bring Our Dad Home for Care

As many of our family and friends know, our dad has been fighting an incredibly hard battle these last few years. A couple of years ago, he was diagnosed with rectal cancer. He bravely went through chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor. Though it took a huge toll on his body, he beat that cancer. Because of how difficult treatment was on him physically, he chose not to continue with preventative treatments afterward. Since then, even though he has always been one of the strongest people we know, his body hasn’t been the same.

About a year ago, doctors found spots on his liver. This time, he chose not to undergo treatment. His health has declined steadily since then, and these past few months have been especially difficult. A few months ago, he suffered a major fall that broke his hip and pelvis, requiring extensive surgery. After being released to a rehab facility, he was sent home only to fall again within a week, this time breaking his leg. He went through another major surgery, returned to rehab, and then came home again briefly before ending up back in the ER with severe sepsis. The infection spread so quickly that doctors had no choice but to amputate his leg to save his life.

Right now, our dad is in a hospital far away from any family, recovering and extremely vulnerable. We are doing everything we can to transfer him to a skilled nursing facility near us in Dallas, Texas, where he can finally have support, comfort, and daily visits from the people who love him most. He has been through so much, and at this point, being close to family is one of the most important things for his physical and emotional well-being, especially since we don’t know how much time we have left with him due to the cancer. His insurance will not cover the medical transfer to Texas, and the cost of transferring him safely out of state is more than we can cover alone.

Asking for help is never easy, but we know in our hearts that our dad needs to be close to family. He deserves to be surrounded by love, support, and familiar faces while we navigate whatever time we have left with him. If you feel led to help whether by donating, sharing, or praying we are deeply grateful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us bring our dad home. – Indiana & Jasper
