Help Bring Our Dad Home After a Devastating Brain Aneurysm

On 13th April, our family's world changed forever.
My father-in-law and mother-in-law had just arrived in Spain to begin the retirement they had worked so hard for after dedicating a combined 75 years to the NHS as mental health nurses. They had spent their careers caring for others and were finally ready to enjoy the next chapter of their lives together.
Tragically, shortly after landing at the airport, my father-in-law suffered a catastrophic brain aneurysm at the airport.
Since that day, he has undergone three major brain surgeries. On two separate occasions, doctors told us he was unlikely to survive. Against all odds, he has fought through every setback with incredible strength and determination.
He is now in a rehabilitation hospital in Spain, but the brain injury caused by the bleeding has left him with life-changing disabilities. His medical team have explained that he is unlikely to regain his ability to walk or speak properly and will require around-the-clock care and support for the foreseeable future.
Our greatest wish and what has been advised by the medical team is to bring him home to England so he can be surrounded by his family and receive ongoing care close to those who love him. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his condition, he cannot travel on a commercial flight. He will need either a specialist medical ambulance journey across Europe or an air ambulance, both of which come at an enormous cost.
Once he returns home, he and my mother-in-law will be moving into our family home so that we can care for them together. We want them to be surrounded by love, familiarity and support during this incredibly difficult time.
We are asking for help to cover:
* Specialist medical transport from Spain to the UK.
* Essential medical equipment and care needs.
* Adaptations to our home to make it safe and accessible.
* Ongoing costs associated with his rehabilitation and daily care.
Asking for help is not easy, but after a lifetime spent caring for others, we hope people will now help care for him.
Whether you are able to donate or simply share this page, every act of kindness brings us one step closer to bringing him home where he belongs.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity, support and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude,

Paul and Penny Gaynor’s family

UPDATE❤️ 30.06.2026
We are completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity that has been shown to our family. Thanks to each and every one of you, we have now raised just over £3,000.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Whether you've donated, shared our story, sent kind messages, or kept us in your thoughts and prayers, every act of support has meant more than we can put into words.
As many of you know, my father-in-law suffered a devastating brain aneurysm shortly after arriving in Spain to begin his retirement with my mother-in-law after dedicating a combined 75 years of service to the NHS. After three brain surgeries and defying the odds twice, he is now in rehabilitation, but the road ahead is long and challenging.
Your generosity is helping to bring us one step closer to getting him home to the UK, where he can be surrounded by his family and receive the ongoing care and support he needs. Knowing that so many people care has given us hope during one of the most difficult times our family has ever faced.
We still have a long way to go, but this incredible start has reminded us that we are not facing this journey alone.
Thank you for standing beside us. We will continue to share updates on his progress, and please know that every donation, share, and message truly makes a difference.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Our family ❤️
