Hello, my name is Victoria Heifet and I am starting this gofundme after learning the finances necessary to appropriately honor the loss of my 16 year old nephew, Osmar Teo. On the night of June 11th, 2026 Osmar took his own life.

I officially met Osmar in 2022 on my first visit to Guatemala. He was a shy and reserved 12 year old kid but shined when playing sports or talking about his favorite fashion trends. Osmar came from Guatemala to Cherry Hill, NJ in 2024 as that same quiet kid to live with my Step-dad and mother. They began the process of building a life with and for Osmar since he loved United States.

Osmar went to a Cherry Hill High School West and worked nights at Mulligans in Oaklyn, NJ. We could see the pride Osmar had in his decisions to find independence and purpose. He worked hard not because he was told to but because it’s what he wanted to do. As our family took care of my grandmother with dementia, Osmar continuously showed how he expressed love. He stepped up on a consistent basis and was always willing to put the needs of the home above his own wants.

As Osmar spent more time in the US, his relationships with his step dad, family and those around him grew. We could see love on him and others felt it as well. He gave us excitement and hope towards his ability to connect with others.

Unfortunately we are now having to cope without the possibility of a future with Osmar as a happy and loving adult.

We are asking for donations, in any amount, to fly Osmar’s physical body back to Guatemala for his parents and siblings to say goodbye and have a proper burial.

Please talk to your family and friends about mental health. We thought Osmar had a life that was built for him by him. We don’t prevent suicide by ignoring the possibility. Love sometimes just isn’t enough to save them.
