Spark Marginalized Artists & Youth Representation in Kenya!

Donation protected
My friend Aroji started Bold Theatre (BT) in Kenya to fill a gap in social justice and education for marginalized youth in the slums of Nairobi, where such opportunities are nonexistent. Through these forums, young people can transform their lives through self-expression and representation.

BT is staging Richi wa Utat/Richard III, reimagining the text within Nairobi’s ghettos. Richi(Richard III) rises from the streets of Korogocho in a story of ruthless ambition, betrayal, and survival — a reflection of the harsh realities many Gen Z in Nairobi face (These are the same struggles that drove youths to storm Parliament on 25 June 2024 during the historic Occupy Parliament protests.) By adapting into Sheng language- the most spoken Kiswahili patois- and infusing with East African culture, mythology, and aesthetics, this project gives marginalized artists in the ghettos an opportunity to self-actualize and see their own stories represented.

Furthermore, this project is *not* just simply a play! In this project BT provides education & resources to Kenyan artists in the slums of Nairobi, supporting them with meals, water, transportation, & internet!

By sponsoring this production, you are not just funding a play — you are investing in a platform for education, social justice, and youth empowerment. Together we can amplify voices too often silenced and give young people the chance to imagine new futures.

Your support makes this revolution possible. It brings marginalized youth into spaces of art and expression, sustains local performers, musicians, and designers, and fosters international collaboration. Your donations support project operating costs and production costs as we perform in the ghettos- by people from the ghettos- for the ghettos. AND it ensures the play is staged in Nairobi's most prestigious stages!

Every donation is a step toward justice. Every contribution fuels self-expression and representation.

Anything you can donate helps! Thank you/Asante Sana!
