My mom is a wonderful woman and mother—caring, funny, and the heart of our family. We’re incredibly close, talking on the phone multiple times a day. Since my brother passed away four years ago in San Diego, she’s been stuck in a skilled nursing facility, often on and off hospice, and all alone. Besides my cousin’s occasional visits, she has no one nearby. It breaks my heart to know she’s missing the hugs and family connection she needs so much.

I want to bring my mom home to Humboldt County, where she’ll be surrounded by people who love her. I’ve found a caring ambulance company that can transport her from Vista to a new facility in Eureka. Once she’s here, she’ll have regular visitors—my close friends who have known her for over 20 years—and she’ll finally get to meet my dogs, who she taught me to care for. Being closer to family will give her the motivation to sit up, transfer to a wheelchair, and enjoy visits around our beautiful county. Her mental, emotional, and physical well-being depend on this move.
