Hi everyone, my name is Melodie and I’m fundraising for my incredible mother Sonja. Who is currently in the hospital in Spain after developing a serious leg infection called cellulitis during our family trip. The infection has led to two emergency surgeries and awaiting a third. Being denied coverage. The hospital is 750 EURO a day which is about $1300 CAN I’m raising funds to help cover her medical expenses, ongoing treatment, and the costs of bringing her home safely to Canada once she’s well enough to travel.

This trip to Spain was meant to be something truly special for our family. My family is originally from Spain so after 9 years we were so excited to reconnect with loved ones and explore all the beautiful places — but near the end of our stay, everything suddenly changed.

My mom noticed her leg had became swollen, bruised, and painful. She went to the hospital and spent over 15 hours undergoing tests. The doctor sent her home with antibiotics. Unfortunately, those antibiotics weren’t effective for the type of infection she had, and within days her leg became severely inflamed, red, and blistered. She was rushed back to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery, where doctors drained two litres of fluid from her leg.

Since then, she has endured two surgeries, and her leg is still infected and oozing, preventing doctors from closing the wound. She remains in the hospital under close care and will need continued treatment to control the infection and begin healing.

To make matters worse, insurance denied her coverage due to her pre existing medical history.

Through it all, my mom has remained unbelievably strong. She’s faced every challenge life has thrown at her with courage and determination, but this time she needs help.
