My mom has always been a caring and generous person, known for helping others. She was in the final steps of fixing her papers and receiving her legal residence. After attending her interview in Fresno, she was unexpectedly arrested by ICE due to a mistake made by her lawyer on her application. Now, she is being held at the CoreCivic Otay Mesa Detention Center, a facility known for its overcrowded and inhumane conditions. My mom currently sleeps on the floor and went days without any shoes. It breaks my heart to know she is suffering, especially when she has always tried to do things the right way and has given so much to others.

At her first court appearance, the judge explained that her arrest was the result of incorrect information on her application—a mistake that was not her fault.
