Help Bring My Father Home One Last Time

It pains me to have to write this. I never thought I would need to create a GoFundMe, but on April 26th, 2025, my father, Sergio Amador, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 69. He was in Indiana at the time, and our family is working to bring him home to Florida so we can say our final goodbyes and celebrate his life surrounded by those who loved him. My father was truly one of a kind a social butterfly who could talk to anyone and make friends wherever he went. He loved cars, building things, and helping others. He even built the house he passed away in, with help from friends, family, and the local community.

Born in Puerto Rico, he came to the Bronx at just 17 years old, not knowing a word of English and with very little education. Life wasn’t always easy. He lost his mother at a young age, was raised by his grandmother and uncle, and grew up with his cousins he was an only child. Later, he went to live with his father, who struggled with addiction, and eventually, my dad fell into the same cycle. But through it all, he never lost his kindness, his sense of humor, or his deep love for people and life. Black, white, Jewish, Indian, gay, straight it didn’t matter. He had a story to share, a joke to tell, and a heart big enough for everyone.

He was the life of the party, a loving father of five (two boys and three girls), and to me his youngest daughter he was everything. I was his shadow growing up, always by his side. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfectly mine, and I want to honor him in a way that reflects that love.

We’ve been able to come up with some of the funds ourselves, but we still need help to reach our goal. Any donations no matter how small would make a difference. Even if you can’t give, simply sharing this or saying a prayer would mean the world to me and my family.
