On Friday, August 29, our world was turned upside down when my dad suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side. He was in Helena at the time, attending his brother’s celebration of life. While the family was gathering to honor one family member, another was suddenly fighting for his life.
Because Helena did not have a neurologist available, my dad had to be airlifted to Billings to receive the specialized care he urgently needed. We are so thankful he made it there safely and is now receiving treatment, but his road to recovery will be long and challenging.
Right now, our greatest goal is to bring him back to the Pacific Northwest. Medicare is covering part of his medical care, but unfortunately, it does not cover one of the most critical needs we’re facing: the cost of safe, professional medical transportation to get him back home. My dad cannot travel in a regular car, and without specialized transportation, he cannot leave the hospital.
Anyone who knows my dad knows that he is more than just a patient — he is a father, a friend, and a source of strength and humor. Before the stroke, he loved sharing stories to make everyone laugh, going for sunrise walks, and playing with his grandbabies. My dad has somehow managed to keep his positive spirit through everything, as has my mom, staying by his side and encouraging him through the challenges. He has always been there for his family and community, and now we are doing everything we can to be there for him.
Being home will mean so much more than comfort. It will give him the healing environment he needs, surrounded by family, love, and familiarity. It will allow us to care for him closely and ensure he has the support he needs in the weeks and months ahead.
The cost of this specialized medical transportation is more than our family can cover on our own, which is why we’re turning to our community for help. Every dollar raised will go directly toward the transportation and related expenses to bring my dad home safely.
If you’re unable to give financially, simply sharing this fundraiser with others is an incredible way to support us. We are deeply grateful for every prayer, every kind word, and every act of generosity as we walk this difficult journey.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us bring my dad home.
