HELP BRING MUM HOME
The heart of our family.
On Friday 27th August 2021 my beautiful mum, Edna Pilkington, collapsed and was hospitalised while abroad with my dad in Turkey and is receiving ongoing medical care which is extremely costly and beyond what our family can provide, so we are asking for your help.
My dad found my mum collapsed and immediately called for an ambulance. Paramedics arrived and suspected she had suffered a stroke. She was taken to hospital who demanded thousands of pounds be paid before she could be admitted. This is an extremely large sum of money to have to hand for most people and so being unable to pay this amount, my mum was refused care at this hospital and was then taken to a second hospital. The ambulance charged my dad £1 000 to do this, which he was able to pay. The second hospital admitted my mum. She was treated and given scans, and then had to be taken to a third hospital. In the third hospital my mum was given 2 MRI’s, after which my dad was informed that she had suffered a massive brain haemorrhage and was paralysed on her right side and unable to speak. She was then taken into the Intensive Care Unit.
Three days later mum suffered a massive stroke. Another MRI was given. Then my dad received the devastating news that my mum was unlikely to ever walk, talk or even understand us again. To say our family is heartbroken is an understatement.
My mum is currently still in the ICU in Soke hospital in Turkey. Our family are now focused on bringing mum and dad home. Unfortunately flying may not be an option for my mum because of the pressure on her brain, so we are looking at alternative ways to bring her back to her family. The cost of being able to do this is so far unknown, but it is more than likely going to be extremely costly, on top of the already huge medical bills incurred so far of over £5 000 in a matter of days. They have told us she could be in hospital for a number of weeks yet.
I am appealing to anyone who can give as much or as little as they can afford to assist us in paying for the medical costs and for my mum to be brought home sooner rather then later to be treated at home where she belongs, as she is currently alone, surrounded by doctors who speak only Turkish & still under strict covid rules & regulations.
We appreciate any help you can give us in raising as much as we can.
Thank you so much for your help and for reading our story.
