Help Bring Miriam Home!
On Thursday, October 9th, our friend Miriam went to a routine check-in at the Federal Building in Downtown San Diego. She had received a letter asking her to appear with her immigration documents. After living in San Diego for over 25 years, we thought, at worst, she might be fitted with an ankle monitor. But instead while calmly waiting for her appointment, ICE agents approached Miriam, led her to an elevator, and brought her to a basement holding cell. She was detained without warning with no chance to say goodbye. She remained in that basement for several days, while her loved ones desperately tried to locate her and get her legal help.
Eventually, she was transferred to another detention facility were we have been told she will be held without bond until she sees an immigration judge — but no date has been given.
Miriam’s absence has left a painful void in her family and her community. She is a mother, a friend, a neighbor — someone who has built her life here and given so much to those around her.
We are asking for donations to help cover her extremely expensive legal defense.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are doing everything we can to bring Miriam home.
