Update from the family:

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Michael Campbell on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was surrounded by his beloved Diane and children. Our hopes to bring him home changed over the week. His body gave a good fight in trying to recovery.

We will provide additional information on a service once we return from Florida.

We are humbled by your generosity. Your contributions will be used to bring dad home and cover funeral expenses. We hoped to be able to thank each one of you at some point.

On March 10th, while my in-laws, Diane and Mike Sr., were away on a cruise, Mike Sr. went on an excursion in Curacao and he suffered a devastating fall down a number of stairs. The island's EMS rushed him to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had head bleeds and a fracture dislocation of his C5/C6 vertebrae. He was immediately intubated, medically sedated, and underwent surgery to fuse the fracture.

After a few days, Mike Sr. was airlifted by air ambulance to a level 1 trauma center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Since arriving, he has faced a series of serious medical challenges. He needed the surgery redone, and during the second surgery, C2 to T3 was fused and decompression was performed. He developed pneumonia due to an NG tube in his lungs, underwent a procedure for a tracheostomy, had a chest tube placed because of a pleural effusion, received a blood transfusion, and required another procedure for a DVT. It has been an overwhelming and emotional journey for our entire family.

Right now, our biggest hope is to bring Mike Sr. closer to home in Maryland so that family can more easily be with him. His sons are rotating visits to Florida, and his daughter has stayed there to support him and it is getting expensive to keep flying back and forth. As of right now there's a big chance insurance will not cover the medical transport needed to bring him home. The previous transport from the island to Florida was covered by travel insurance, but this next step most likely is not. We have always been a 'we will work it out' kind of family, but this time we need help. Mike Sr. has given so much to his community over the years as a Veteran in Navy and a volunteer firefighter, and now we are asking for the community's support to help bring him home.
