My wife, Maureen May, traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for what was supposed to be a heart procedure, but complications turned her journey into a fight for her life. She underwent open-heart surgery, suffered kidney failure, and required dialysis, life support, and a tracheotomy. After weeks in the ICU at Emory Hospital, she has finally been released and transferred to an LTAC facility where doctors are working to wean her off the ventilator and, hopefully, remove her tracheotomy. While this is a huge step forward, Maureen still has a long road to recovery. We live in Florida with our daughter, and our greatest wish is to bring her home so she can heal surrounded by family. Unfortunately, the cost of medical transport from Atlanta to West Palm Beach is in the thousands of dollars.
