Hi, my name is Oscar Cruz. On December 26, 2025, my family’s life was suddenly turned upside down when my father, Mario Cruz, was detained by ICE in Southeast Portland on 60th and Flavel—just two minutes away from our home.

That morning, we woke up to an anonymous note left on our front door with my father’s license plate number written on it. His car was still parked on the curb where he had left it, but my father and his employee were gone. We had no warning, no explanation, and no idea where he was taken. The fear, confusion, and helplessness we felt in that moment are impossible to fully put into words.

My father is an honest, hardworking man who has dedicated his life to providing for his family. Everything he does is rooted in love, sacrifice, and responsibility. He leaves early, works long hours, and never complains, because his greatest priority has always been making sure his family is safe, supported, and cared for. He is not just a provider, but the heart of our family—the person we turn to for guidance, comfort, and strength during difficult times.

Beyond our family, my dad has always been deeply committed to his community. He has helped neighbors, friends, coworkers, and even strangers whenever he could, often without being asked and never expecting anything in return. He believes in lifting others up, in working honestly, and in treating everyone with kindness and respect. Anyone who knows him can speak to his big heart, his generosity, and his willingness to help no matter the situation.

Right now, our family is facing emotional, financial, and legal challenges we never imagined we would have to endure. The sudden loss of my father’s presence and income has left us struggling to keep up with basic needs, legal fees, and the overwhelming uncertainty of what comes next.
