Help Bring Marcellin Shabani Home for His Final Rest
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Marcellin Shabani, who died on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, after complications from kidney failure related to type 2 diabetes. He was 56 years old.
Marcellin was born on May 17, 1969, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and dedicated his life to serving others. He studied social and rural development and spent his career advocating for women’s rights, working with the local department for women and children in Bukavu, South Kivu province. Much of his work took place in rural areas, where he educated women about their rights and supported families with compassion and dignity.
After developing kidney failure, Marcellin was brought to Nairobi for advanced medical care, where he spent three months undergoing treatment with the hope of receiving a kidney transplant from his son. Despite these efforts, he passed away far from home.
Marcellin leaves behind his wife, four children, his father, and many siblings, all of whom are devastated by this loss.
Beyond his professional life, Marcellin was known for his warmth and generosity. He loved soccer and played for a local football club, cherished time with friends and family, and was widely known as the person everyone turned to for help. Even after losing a limb due to diabetes complications, he remained deeply committed to supporting others. He often said that hearing about another person suffering brought him great sadness, a reflection of his empathy and humanity.
We are raising funds to transport Marcellin’s body back to the Democratic Republic of Congo so that he can be laid to rest in his hometown of Bukavu, surrounded by family and community. Donations will also support funeral and burial services.
Any contribution will help honor Marcellin’s life and ensure he receives the farewell he deserves. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this campaign.
Thank you for your kindness, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
About This Fundraiser
This fundraiser is being organized by Krystal Bouthillette on behalf of Aline Binyungu and Clement Shabani. Clement is Marcellin Shabani’s brother.
After learning of Marcellin’s passing and the urgent need to bring his body home to the Democratic Republic of Congo, I offered to assist the family by helping navigate the GoFundMe platform and coordinate outreach. All funds raised will go directly to Clement Shabani to support the transportation of Marcellin’s body to Congo and to cover funeral and burial services in Bukavu.
Thank you again for standing with this family during this incredibly difficult time.
