My beloved nephew Logan is a 15-year-old boy whose life changed in an instant when he suffered a posterior circulation stroke. What began as a normal day quickly became every family’s worst nightmare. Logan is currently fighting for his life in the hospital and remains on life support because he is unable to breathe independently. While he continues to show incredible strength and courage, his recovery journey will be long and challenging.
As Logan’s family focuses on being by his side every day, they are also facing the reality of preparing their home for the level of care he will need when he is finally able to leave the hospital. To safely bring Logan home, significant modifications must be made, including accessibility improvements, specialized medical equipment accommodations, and other changes necessary to support his ongoing care. The emotional and financial burden on the family has been overwhelming. Between medical expenses, time away from work, travel to and from the hospital, and the cost of adapting their home, the challenges continue to grow.
